n the early evening of September 4, 2025, a violent carjacking sent shockwaves through Los Angeles' Koreatown neighborhood. Just after 7 p.m., near the bustling intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Western Avenue, a lone suspect confronted a driver in a brazen attack, according to CBS Los Angeles. Wielding a knife, the assailant forcibly took the victim’s sedan, leaving the driver shaken but unharmed.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) responded quickly, flooding the area with patrol units as the suspect sped off in the stolen vehicle. Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with bystanders scrambling for safety as the carjacker peeled away. “It was over in seconds,” a local shop owner told CBS. “This area’s always busy, but you don’t expect something this bold.”
The stolen vehicle was later found abandoned a few miles away in Mid-City, but the suspect remains on the loose. Described only as a male in his 20s wearing a dark hoodie, the carjacker has eluded capture, prompting the LAPD to ramp up their search. Surveillance footage from nearby businesses is being reviewed, but no arrests have been made as of early September 5.
Koreatown, known for its vibrant nightlife and tight-knit community, is reeling from the incident, which adds to a string of crimes reported across Los Angeles in the past 24 hours. The LAPD is urging anyone with information to contact their Olympic Station at 213-382-9102. For now, residents are left on edge, wary of the next unexpected threat.
