SGV Patrol’s Heroic Defense of La Puente Businesses During 2020 Los Angeles Riots
In July 2020, as Los Angeles County faced mass looting and crimes targeting Asian-American businesses during widespread riots, Joshua Quintana and SGV Patrol stepped up to protect both current and new clients from escalating threats. Amid the chaos, Joshua received an urgent call from a friend, the owner of Hacienda Outlet, a clothing retail store in La Puente. Criminals from out of town had announced plans on social media to target the store for looting.
By 6 AM, as the owner began boarding up Hacienda Outlet, Joshua arrived with advanced communication systems and various security devices. In a remarkable last-minute effort, he rallied a coalition of concerned La Puente residents, including members of the "Solanos Offroad" truck club. Joshua strategically positioned defenders on the rooftop, inside, and around the building, with lookouts stationed along Hacienda Boulevard. Club members used lifted trucks to block entrances to the private property, preventing vehicles filled with looters from gaining easy access.
In a show of community resilience, local "homie militia" members distributed golf clubs and baseball bats for defense while grilling carne asada, fostering camaraderie. Large Cane Corso dogs bolstered the group’s presence. This overwhelming, jerry-rigged defense, combined with a massive show of force and coordination with local law enforcement, prevented looting at Hacienda Outlet and multiple nearby businesses. The Asian-American security organizations @jackfroot & @asianswithattitudes on Instagram praised the effort, highlighting how Hispanic and Asian community members united to protect small businesses. A group photo captured the solidarity after the threat subsided.
