In the predawn hours of September 5, 2025, a Glendale strip mall on San Fernando Road became the scene of a brazen burglary spree, with two restaurants and a bakery left in disarray. According to reports from CBS Los Angeles and KTLA, the break-ins occurred shortly after 3 a.m., targeting Dinah’s Chicken, El Pavo Bakery, and El Ruby Café, three beloved local businesses. The Glendale Police Department is now investigating, as the community grapples with the aftermath of this shocking crime wave.
Security footage from the businesses revealed two masked suspects smashing through glass doors and rummaging through cash registers. At Dinah’s Chicken, one suspect was seen darting behind the counter while the other headed to the back, leaving shattered glass and chaos in their wake. El Pavo Bakery and El Ruby Café suffered similar fates, with doors broken and interiors trashed. “It’s like getting slapped in the face,” said Linda Pearson of Dinah’s Chicken, expressing frustration to CBS. “There’s nothing here to take.”
Despite the destruction, the burglars made off with minimal loot. Vanessa Cuateco, whose parents own El Ruby Café, told reporters, “We don’t keep money in the business anymore. It’s too risky.” The focus has shifted to the costly repairs, with shattered doors and damaged equipment leaving owners with hefty bills. The Glendale Police Department noted that the suspects, described only as two individuals in dark clothing and masks, fled before officers arrived. One suspect was spotted wearing a gray hoodie with “NARCOS” written on the back, but no arrests have been made as of early Friday.
The targeted strip mall, located in the 4100 block of San Fernando Road, is a hub for locals, making the crime feel deeply personal. “If you’re hungry, come here, and we’ll give you free food,” Pearson added, highlighting the comm
unity spirit that persists despite the violation. Police are reviewing additional footage and urging anyone with information to contact them at 818-548-4911.
This incident follows a pattern of burglaries in Glendale, with ten businesses hit in a single night back in April 2023, raising concerns about a recurring crime wave. As Los Angeles faces a surge of break-ins and violent incidents over the past 24 hours, Glendale’s small business owners are left to pick up the pieces, calling for stronger security measures and community vigilance.
